LABORATORY IN BRIEF
The Laboratory of Ergatic Systems (Man-Machine Systems - MMS) was established at the IEC in 1971 and is a basic laboratory of the Institute in the field of research and development of the theory of complex MMS analysis and synthesis. The main scientific directions are:

· development of the theory, methods, analysis and synthesis of the intelligent, information technology (IT) in MMS;
· development and study of the methods of design and functioning efficiency increasing of MMS, using the new IT.
STAFF
At present 21 persons work in the Laboratory of Man-Machine Systems (LMMS), including: the head of the Laboratory Prof., D.Sc. Gerald G.Man`shin and 10 senior scientists with Ph.D. degree I.Tom, V.Savchenko, E.Leonovich, V.Tihomirov, O.Protopopov, A.Prihogy, A.Smolsky, T.Kononkov, M.Solovey, A.Gutsaliuk.
RESEARCH FIELDS
There are the following areas of interest of the LMMS:
· methods and means of preventive maintenance of MMS;
· systems of modeling, analysis and computer testing 3D layout of workstation of MMS operator, using the computer model of parametric 3D dummy and the set of ergonomic criteria;
· modeling of complicated algorithms of operator activity in the normal, abnormal, accident situations and prediction of reliability indices of operator activity in corresponding situations;
· systems of multicriteria examination and choice of alternatives on the basis of complex using and generalization of objective quantitative and subjective qualitative information on the corresponding criteria meanings;
· development of new methods of layout optimization of information-control panels, saturated with the devices and controls;
· universal inductive method for automated metric coding and computer-aided input of the two- and three- dimensional information of the structurally complex forms;
· complex method of training and support of effective activity of MMS man-operator;
· method of reliability-oriented design of MMS;
· development of method for check and control of the vigilance level, check of the emotional strain and the perception of the semantically binary relevant information of the operator during the execution of basic activity algorithms;
· development and study of the methods for prevention and automatic correction of operator's errors, caused by the tremor of executive organs during the executing of precision activity algorithms;
· study the problem of the analysis and synthesis of the self-organizing biotechnological systems.
PROJECTS
· Problem of analysis and synthesis of the intelligent information technologies in MMS.
· Development and study of methods of increasing MMS design and functioning efficiency, using a new information technology.
· Development and study of the bioadaptive animation conception in the systems of virtual reality.
· Development of system (theory, methods and software) for ergonomic design of composite operator's workstations.
· Method of increasing of operator functioning efficiency and modeling its reliable characteristics under the realization of precision activity algorithms.
· Development of universal method and preparation of sample device for the semi-automatic computer input of two- and three-dimensional information.
· Development of multi-user system for support and justification of solutions under the choice of alternatives.
The results, obtained in the LMMS are exploited in such organizations as: Minsk Automobile Plant, Taganrog Aircraft Scientific-Technological Enterprise (Russia), Air-Trail Institute named Gromov (Russia), Center of Ergonomic Researches and Developments in Military Industry "Ergocentre" (Russia), Ministry of Railtraffic (Russia), Ministry of Railtraffic (Belarus), BelAvia (Belarusian Company of Civil Aviation). The researchers realized many state and academical programs of fundamental and retrieval researches.
INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY
There have been made more than 100 scientific publications in the international editions. The collaborators participate in many international conferences: USA, UK, Austria, Italy, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, Belgium, Turkey, Lebanon, Sweden, Bulgaria.
At present the international collaboration is realized also within the framework of the International Academy of Informational Processes and Technologies (IAIPT).
