EMPLOYMENT
1978-1980 IEC.
Junior Research Scientist. General training in CAD Systems Laboratory
(first year). Reported to Head of Research Group. Responsible for 1 technician.
Algorithms and software for representation and modification of curves in
CAD and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) have been developed and
used in several CAD systems and GIS.
1980-1983 IEC .
Full-Time Student in Post Graduate Courses and Part-Time Research Scientist.
Techniques, algorithms and software for raster-to-vector transform of isoline
map-drawing binary images, cartographic object representation have been
developed and applied for automatic digitising of simple map-drawings.
The software to digitise isoline maps has been used in map digitising systems.
1983-1986 IEC
Research scientist. Reported to Head of Research Group. Responsible
for 2 engineers and 2 technicians. Developing techniques for binary image
processing, vectorization and recognition. Data structure for representation
of map-drawings in vector form has been developed. The algorithms and software
for various map layers digitising have been developed and used in map digitising
system. Theoretical algorithms for distance transform, object representation
and recognition, knowledge-based image interpretation, texture analysis
have been developed.
1986-1987 IEC
Fellow Scientist, Head of Research Group. Reported to Head of Laboratory.
Responsible for 3 researchers, 2 engineers and 2 technicians. Developing
a technology, algorithms and software for processing of map and remote
sensing images.
1987-To present IEC
Head of Image
Processing and Recognition Laboratory. Reported to Deputy Director
and Director of the Institute. Responsible for 20 staff (14 scientists
and researchers, 5 engineers, 1 technician). Scientifical, conceptual and
engineering supervision and management over number of projects. According
to these projects, the systems for interpretation of different types of
map-drawings, processing of remote sensing images, technical drawing recognition,
PCB image interpretation, expert systems have been created and implemented
at various industrial companies. Methods for object recognition and description,
knowledge-based image interpretation, text and graphics segmentation, texture
analysis, engineering drawing image interpretation, parallel image processing,
remote sensing image processing (contouring, straight line extraction,
object recognition, matching with maps) have been developed. During this
period, five Laboratory researchers wrote Candidate of Sciences (PhD) thesis.
Supervision of four post-graduated students now.
1985-1986 Belarusian Polytechnic
Part-time Assistant Professor of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute.
Faculty of Robotics. Teaching: Theory of Algorithms and Formal Languages.
1989-1995 Belarusian State University
Half-Time Associate Professor (1989-1991) and Professor (1991-1995)
of the Belarusian State University. Faculty of Applied Mathematics. Lectural
and practical courses: Digital Image Processing, Computer graphics, Systems
of Information Processing. Supervision of under- and graduated students
(design and diploma thesis).
1994-at present Belarusian State University of Informatics and
Radioelectronics
Half-Time Professor. Lectural and practical courses: Processing of
Graphical Images.
Every year I supervise 3-4 graduate students from Belarusian Universities. At present, I supervise the following post-graduate students and researchers: DSc degree: A.Tuzikov, V.Starovoitov, G.Aparin; PhD degree: O.Okun, D.Lagunovsky, A.Nedzved.
Industrial Experience. During last ten years, working as a Head of Laboratory I have permanent contacts with industrial companies performing projects for them and inculcating our results and systems. The developed systems have been inculcated in various industrial companies of Belarus (State Cartographic Factory, Computer Center of Ministry of Forest Economy, State Ecological Center "Ecomir", Industrial Amalgamation "Integral", BelGiproGas, BelGIIS "GeoServie"), Russia (InterAVIA Inc., NII Avtoprom, Nishnevartovsk Region Oil Ministry, Institute of Precise Instrument Building, some cartographic companies and others), Ukraine (Metallurgic Amalgamation "Zaporozhstal", NPO "Rotor", cartographic companies). This work allowed me to study and know very well industrial technologies and requirements.
